Vision 2012
The Strategic Plan and Vision 2012
In early 2006, the CMF Board decided that we needed a more specific goal and a plan that would achieve it. In consultation with the Ontario Ministry of Culture we became aware that “the barracks” could not satisfy the necessary criteria to be recognized as a museum, but could qualify as a “heritage centre”.
We subscribed to and participated in a United Way sponsored workshop intended to assist non-profit groups, like the CMF, in developing a strategic plan. It was an interesting and challenging experience.
The question and challenge we faced was what function the building, its site and its operation should fulfill in order to add to and enhance the work of the community of heritage interests already active in the area, and how to best inform residents and visitors alike about our fascinating history.
The outcome is Vision 2012 and a commitment to create a multi-function, multi-media heritage centre with the expertise to build, display and distribute effective exhibits based on individual historic themes. While there would be no limit on the Centre conducting its own research, our vision relies on working closely with other heritage groups and individuals to engage and inform the public.
While the strategic plan is a general document, subject to change if and when needed, it does set a current course of action and helps to organize planning, work and positive responses to unanticipated circumstances. Vision 2012 sets a projected opening date of June 2012, which will be the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812.
